One of my main goals for 2018 is to get healthy by working out more consistently and watching what I eat. To be completely transparent, I have gained a ton of weight over the last few months. I am currently 25 pounds heavier than my normal weight, so getting back into shape is pretty high on my priority list at the moment. So that being said, I'm trying my best to stay motivated (read 5 easy ways to do so here) and stick with my fitness resolution! I thought I'd share a few key factors that have been helping me the last few weeks:
Work out first thing in the morning.
My morning workout is always going for a run. For me, if I don't run first thing in the morning, there's a good chance that I won't be running at all that day. By getting your workout in first thing, you'll have the rest of the day free to do whatever, without having to think about going to the gym/run etc! You'll be a happier person because of it, trust me!
Put on workout clothes right when you get out of bed.
Like I just said, I try to workout first thing in the morning. But if for some reason I have to do a few things before I have the chance to go for a run, I always put on my workout clothes as soon as I get out of bed, regardless whether I am running right away or not. By doing this, I'm keeping my workout in the forefront of my brain, so it doesn't slip my mind and too much time passes.
Sign up for classes with ClassPass.
I've never been one to actually go to the gym or take group classes. I've always been a runner and then would do some strengthening exercises at home. Now that I'm getting older, and lazier, I need something in my life to keep me accountable. That's where ClassPass comes in! If you haven't heard of ClassPass, you can download the app and you basically have a ton of different workout classes to choose from (Yoga, Strength Training, Cycling, and much more), and you don't have to be a member of the gym/club! Reserving your spot in a class will help keep you accountable and insure you get your workout in for the day! You can sign up here and get your first month for FREE!
Don't weigh yourself.
I used to weigh myself constantly because I wanted to get down to a certain weight. Now that I'm a little bit older (and honestly don't lose weight as quickly as I used to), I don't weigh myself. Health is not about the number on the scale people!! It's about how you feel, and how you feel in your own skin. For me, it's about how I feel when I look at myself in the mirror. Looking at the scale is only going to discourage you, and that's just silly!

ClassPass is seriously so cool. I love the ease of it and how it allows you to try a bunch of different classes rather than being stuck with one program or gym.
ReplyDeleteSuch great tips! I need to develop a steady workout routine and actually stick to it. Thanks for motivating me!
ReplyDeleteugh I should definitely get back to working out, waking up early is not my thing but I have to stay motivated!!
ReplyDeleteI like to workout in the morning right after I drop my son off at preschool (on the days he goes) and I do the same thing where I put my workout clothes on right after I wake up. That way I'm ready to go as soon as I get home and there's no excuses!

Starting a fitness goal in January is so hard for me because the gyms are crowded and the roads are slush. But I am working on doing things at home this year.
ReplyDeleteThese are such great suggestions! Putting on workout clothes first thing is a really great idea. That would definitely help motivate me to get to the gym on days I don’t want to.
