Is walking your dog sometimes a struggle? Is walking more than one dog overwhelming? Trust me, you're not alone. Now that my boyfriend and I live together, I am sometimes stuck walking both of our dogs at once. Because of the size difference between Tarpon and Scooter, walking both dogs together was sometimes more than I could handle (and there was no way I was going on two separate walks #fitness). Now, I am no expert, but I have come up with a few tips and tricks for making dog walking a little bit easier, especially when walking more than one dog at a time!

1. Know what leash your dog(s) need
Different dogs work best on different types of leashes. I have Scooter on a retractable leash because a) he likes to pee on everything and it's much easier when the lease retracts itself, and b) he isn't the best is the worst leash walker-- he tugs and gets caught around trees. (But he's so little that it's okay, right?). Tarpon is much more behaved and actually listens when you call for him. Normally Tarpon doesn't need to be walked on a leash. He won't wonder off and will come when you call his name. Although I don't always have Tarp on a leash, I always bring one with me. Your dog should always be on a leash when you are walking along the street! All it takes is for a squirrel to catch your dogs eye for it to run into the street and potentially get hit by a car! I also carry a leash because Tarp LOVES other dogs and always wants to play. He is so big that he will sometimes frighten the other walkers (even though he is the sweetest dog you will ever meet), so I will always throw the leash on him when we see other dogs so that he won't run up to them!

2. Carry treats with you
Treats are the best only thing that will keep my dogs focused (like mother like sons?)! Sometimes you will need to get their attention or keep them distracted (like if another dog is walking by), and I have found treats to be the best method!

3. Bring a bottle of water
It is very important that you keep your pups hydrated! Depending on the length of your walk and the temperature outside, you should definitely bring at least one bottle of water with you for your dogs. You should be able to find these travel dog bowls at any of your local pet stores. They are very conveinent and can fit right in your purse!

4. Pack extra poop bags
It's better to be safe than sorry, trust me! I've made the mistake of only bringing one poop bag while walking both of my pups and it was... interesting...

5. Be ready to run
This is kind of a silly tip, but I still think it is crucial! Make sure you wear comfortable clothes, or at least shoes that you can run in. You never know when you may have to chase after your dog. I can't tell you how many times Scooter has taken off to chase a squirrel and his leash has shot out of my hand!

  4. Such cuties! They're both precious. Great tips! We are very lucky and can take our dogs to a 60-acre park in our town that allows them off leash so we never walk on leash. Which is great-until we go to visit my parents and have to walk them in their neighborhood. The struggle is real, gotta remember a few of these tips for those walks!
