3 Tips To Prevent Your Dog From Peeing In The House - Chasing Cinderella

If you've been following along the past couple of years, you know that we now have four dogs. Yes, FOUR! Scooter, our smallest one, will be 10 in October, Tarpon is 8, Mako is 2 and our newest, Tilly, is 6 months old. Yes that's a lot of dogs, and yes we have trouble keeping our house clean. Lately, especially with the new addition of Tilly, our most recent issue is old man Scooter peeing in the house, aka marking everything in sight. I think it's a mix between his old age, and all the smells of the labs that leads to him going indoors. Regardless, we have been trying everything to get this issue under control. There are three main tips I recommend trying at home if you are having the same issue, and I'm also going into detail on the one that has worked best for us!

3 Tips To Prevent Your Dog From Peeing In The House

1. Revisit Crate Training

I've mentioned before how important it is to crate train a new puppy. If your dog is older and having accidents in the house, it may be time to revisit crate training! This will help your dog build bladder strength, and will also help to know where your dog is so they aren't sneaking off and peeing on the couch leg.

2. Install a Dog Door

Having a dog door isn't plausible for everyone's living situations, but if you have the ability to install one, I highly recommend it. This will give your dog the ability to go outside to relieve themselves, without having to wait for you to let them outside.
We have tried crate training and have a dog door, but it still hasn't fixed Scooter’s marking completely. So we moved on to getting him some Hartz® Male Wraps to wear while he is inside the house, and they have worked like a charm!

Hartz® Dog Diapers and Male Wraps are the perfect solution if you have a dog that won't stop marking all over your house- whether it be from excitement, old age, etc! The Male Wraps are just for males, but the dog diapers can be used for male or female dogs! The Male Wraps have not only worked like a charm for keeping our house pee-free, they are also super cute (coming in two stylish and fun prints!)

We use the Hartz® Male Wraps because they are specifically used for marking and/or incontinence problems, and that is what we are struggling with with Scooter! He never goes number 2 in the house, so that is why we strongly believe he is marking because of the addition of Tilly to the household. The Male Wraps are fastened around the waist to only absorb urine. The Dog Diapers look similar to a human diaper and has a hole for the tail. They accommodate both urine and feces, and again can be worn by both male and female dogs!

  1. My oldest dog needs this. He's 13 years old (senior dog) and he's having accidents. It sucks.
